Sang Ah Choi's multi-paneled paintings reflect the confluence of traditional Korean and Western ideals present in her Korean upbringing. The intertwining of cultures is represented by intricate, overlapping imagery created in resin, ink, and glitter, among other materials. Some of Choi's recurrent motifs are archetypal images of Venus and Aphrodite, bamboo stalks, and bubbles. Her imagery explodes into three-dimensional form in the handmade pop-up inserts created by Choi for the limited edition catalogue. The catalogue will also be available in a four-color format without the pop-ups.
